Sarah Anne Edwards,
PhD, LCSW

Over the past twenty-five years, Sarah Edwards has helped thousands of people overcome the trauma, grief and loss of change and create naturally fulfilling lifestyles lives through seminars, workshops, and her private clinical counseling practice, as well as through her nationally syndicated columns and TV and radio shows.

She is the Director of the Pine Mountain Institute, an educational organization providing an ecopsychologically-oriented, transition focused continuing education programs for helping professionals.

Sarah is the co-author with her husband Paul of seventeen books including The Practical Dreamer's Handbook, Changing Directions without Losing Your Way and Finding Your Perfect Work. Her first novel Sitting with the Enemy, an ecopsychological drama of personal and community transformation, is
in its third edition.

Sarah received her Masters in Social Work from the University of
Kansas in 1974. and completed her PhD in Ecopsychology from
Akamai University in 2006, where she is currently on the faculty, and EdD from San Juan University. She is
a Red Cross Authorized Instructor for teaching Family Caregiving. Additional clinical training includes:

Before opening a private practice in 1977, Sarah served as Clinical Director of the Cathexis Institute in Glendale, Californian, an out-patient treatment facility for severely disturbed individuals. Prior to that, she was Director of Social Work Training at the Kansas Medical Center Children's Rehabilitation Unit and Parent Involvement and Social Services Specialist for the Office of Child Developments Kansas City Regional Office.   

She has taught courses for continuing education credit for the California Association for Marriage and Family Therapists and the Life Purpose Institute in San Diego, California. She is on the faculty of Post-Peak Living has taught courses on practice and business development at the University of California at Los Angeles and Santa Cruz.  

Sarah and her husband Paul founded the Pine Mountain Institute in 1999.

Paul Edwards, JDPaul Edwards, J.D.

Over the past twenty-five years, Paul Edwards has helped thousands of people create new and more fulfilling lifestyles through seminars, workshops, and online consultations, as well as through his nationally syndicated columns and TV and radio shows.  

Dr. Edwards is the co-author with his wife Sarah of seventeen books including Working from Home, the first commecially published book on this topic, Middle-Class Lifeboat, their most recent print book, the Working From Home Bar Chart and the Working from Home Encyclopedia, an interactive book.

He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri at Kansas City in 1965. Additional training includes:

In 1972, he was named an Outstanding Young Man of Missouri.  

Dr. Edwards served as Administrative Director of the Cathexis Institute in Glendale, Californian, an out-patient treatment facility for severely disturbed individuals. Prior to that he was President of the Environmental Research and Development Foundation, founded by the Menninger Foundation and served as Coordinator of Intergovernmental Relations for Jackson County Missouri.

 He operated his own public affairs and training company, first in Missouri, then in California, teaching communication and negotiating skills to public officials and corporations such as Southern California Edison, Security Pacific Bank and Hewlett Packard.

 He has taught courses on practice and business development at the University of California at Los Angeles and Santa Cruz and serves on the faculty of the Life Purpose Institute.

Paul serves as a consultant to the Mountain Small Business Development Center of WEV and is on the faculty Post Peak Living.

 In 1999, Dr. Edwards and his wife Sarah founded the Pine Mountain Institute to provide seminars and workshops on life change and transition.

Shelia Clark, PhDShelia Clark, PhD, MFT 

Shelia Clark, Ph.D. is a dual licensed mental health professional as a Marriage and Family Therapist and as a Clinical Psychologist. As a Forensic Evaluator, she has over 25 years experience in behavioral health treatment issues of the injured worker, and has  served as a Q.M.E. (Qualified Medical Examiner) for the California Workers Compensation system and as a Disability Evaluator for the State of California. 

Her research articles on the cultural aspects of the injured Hispanic worker have been published in the Journal of Applied Rehabilitation Counseling and in Psychological Reports.
  Her dedication to helping the medically underserved is demonstrated daily in her commitment to directing California Family Counseling Network, Inc., (CFCN) a charitable nonprofit which she founded in 1996 to bring quality and affordable mental health services to this needy population.

 In 2008, she received the U.S. Presidential Lifetime Volunteer Service Award, for recognition of the vast amount of donated professional time given to this population. CFCN is an Authorized American Red Cross Provider, under which Dr. Clark is a Red Cross Authorized Instructor.  She provides Disaster training to her local community, as well as training in Family Caregiving. 

Her contributions to her rural community were acknowledged by a recent Federal award from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) NHSC program.  Dr. Clark's high standards of accountability is reflected by her volunteer service as a past Oral Examiner for the California Board of Behavioral Science. 

She supports the standards of evidenced-based practices and was a Field Test Try-Out Clinician for the re-norming on the Vineland (2001), the K-ABC (2000), and the CASL (1997) assessment batteries.  Today, she continues an active treatment practice, which encompasses all ages and most categories of mental health issues, developmental delays, learning disabilities,  as well as individual and family perspectives. 

Michael J. Cohen, Ph.D.

For over forty years, ecopsychologist Dr. Michael Cohen has lived in and led groups of others into settings similar to the "Survivor" TV series, except Cohen?s goal was not to compete for a million dollars. His goal was to discover how we can live in sustainable balance with our natural environment. Since 1959, he has camped and studied in eighty-four different ecosystems for periods of three days to six months and lived among many human communities including the Amish, indigenous people, outdoorsmen and ecologists.

     Cohen is the Director of the Institute of Applied Ecopsychology at the International University of Professional Studies in Hawaii. There he oversees an undergraduate and graduate degree program based on the Natural Systems Thinking Process he developed that restores people to their natural state of integrity, physically, mentally and emotionally through the healing power of Nature.

       Dr. Cohen has authored numerous books including Reconnecting to Nature and The Web of Life Imperative He as served on the Adjunct Faculty of Portland State University Graduate School of Extended Studies, is the Founder and Chair of Integrated Ecology, World Peace University/Institute of Global Education Portland, Oregon and is a Contributing Editor, Between the Species Journal of the Albert Schweitzer Center, Berkeley, CA.
